why we offer a military discount

The Big Sky Motel has been family-owned since 1977. The way we run it comes from what we’ve lived, not from a playbook.

In our family, the military has always been part of that.

My dad was born on a base in New Mexico, where my grandfather was stationed. Just before he was set to deploy, he lost his brother in the war. Because of that, he didn’t go. It changed the course of his life, and it’s something our family has carried ever since.

On my mom’s side, the story looks different. My great uncle, and his father before him, both spent their lives in the Army. They stayed long enough to become three- and four-star generals. Different path, same level of commitment.

Those stories don’t feel abstract to us. They’re just part of how we understand service And they shape how we think about something as simple as saying “thank you.”

It’s an important thing to say. It matters. But on its own, it’s easy. It doesn’t cost anything. It doesn’t change much unless it’s backed up by action.

So for us, it’s not just something we say. It’s something we try to build into how we operate.

One small way that shows up is in our military discount. It’s not a promotion or something we try to highlight. It’s just there, built into our rates, because we believe it should be. Nothing about it is complicated.

It’s just a straightforward way to make sure that our appreciation shows up in a real, tangible way for the people who have served, and for the families who have carried that service alongside them.
